Traditional alkyd paint is an oil-based coating that cures through oxidation. Instead of simply drying as water evaporates, the resin continues to harden as it reacts with oxygen. That process is why alkyd finishes have long been valued on doors, trim, and cabinetry: once cured, they resist scuffs, moisture, and everyday wiping better than many standard wall paints.
Many modern cabinet products are waterborne alkyds. They use water for easier cleanup and lower odor while retaining alkyd resin technology for a firmer cured film.
