Blue Steel Rust Converting Primer

Blue Steel Primer combines chemical rust conversion properties with the protective characteristics of a tough surface film. A single application stops rust and also primes the steel. Blue Steel Primer is a safe, effective product which can easily be applied by brush, deck scrubber or low-pressure spray. Compatible with most water-based and solvent-based coatings. Simple clean-up of equipment with soap and water.

CONSUMER USE FOR RUST CONVERTERS
Steel Railings, Metal Buildings, Barns, and Sheds. Blue Steel converts rusted surfaces into a hard Dark Blue or Black substrate, which can be coated over. It converts rust to a hard, stable substrate over the rusted areas and forms a primer film that serves as a platform for the topcoat. Blue Steel Rust Converter is a great choice for rusted steelwork because it stops the corrosion process right in its tracks. Can be used as a Preventative Rust Treatment. Cost effective treatment for asset protection & weathers well. Environmentally friendly & Non-Hazardous – NO VOC’s. Good alternative to blast removal, reducing labor & time. SURFACE PREPARATION
Before you apply Blue Steel, the surface must be free of oil, grease, dirt, salt, mill scale and other contaminants. Any light to medium rust must be properly scrubbed by a wire brush or power tools to remove any loose or flaky rust and old paint. Weathered steel should be blasted with an abrasive or wet abrasive. Best results ate achieved if 10% of the brushed metal is showing through the rusted areas.

APPLICATION
Paint Blue Steel with a stiff brush or deck scrubber to encourage penetration over rusted bare metal to protect against future rust and corrosion on surfaces. Alternatively, one can use a low powered spray. When wet from the packaging, Blue Steel is a creamy colour that changes when coming in contact with rusted steel, indicating that a chemical reaction is taking place. After treatment the area should be blue/black in appearance. If NOT, then insufficient surface preparation was conducted. Wide Range for Application: Air & Substrate temperatures are between 10°C/50°F to 30°C/88°F and relative humidity is between 50% and 90%. Dry to the touch in 2 hours at 20°C/68°F unless cooler temperatures and high humidity delay curing. Wait 24 hours at 20°C/68°F before applying a water-based topcoat & 48 hours before adding a solvent-based topcoat. STORAGE DO NOT FREEZE. Store Blue Steel at room temperature in a clean, dry area protected from direct sunlight. Sealed containers have a shelf live of 12 months from date of packaging.
